And he could guess what those were from. Gareth hadn’t met any goblin that looked particularly healthy, but this medic was exceptionally cadaverous.
At the same time, however, it occurred to Gareth that he had never seen a goblin this old. Most didn’t seem lucky to live so long.
“I’m here because no one else can help me,” Gareth answered truthfully. “This was not my first choice. But the other medics I’ve seen said that if anyone could help, it was you.”
The ancient goblin before him nodded thoughtfully. “We will see. I have never treated a human.”
“I’m a gnome.”
“Same thing, basically.”
Gareth’s confidence was wavering, but he could concede that gnomes and humans were closer to one another than to goblins. His thoughts on the matter were interrupted.
“So if I understand, there is a problem with your heart, that is correct?” the goblin rasped. “I have repaired hearts. I have replaced hearts. It is not easy and it usually does not work. This will be a harrowing experience that you most likely will not survive.” … [cont.]
